Sparky, It's not branded man or Merle. Merle was born in California. The singer I am looking for was born in "The Natural State".

Phil, Very good! It is Pop-A-Top by Jim Ed Brown. The next clue was going to be "It was written by Nat Stucky" but you didn't let it get that far.
The Natural State refers to Arkansas, which you figured out with Googles help no doubt, lol.
You regular gang members are too good at this so I will make the next one more difficult.
