    The Question

Looking for the lyrics and also the mp3 of this song. Probably goes back to the 70's. I'm thinking male singer, but possibly a duet. I think the title is THE QUESTION. Searching GOOGLE but no luck so far.
    Lyrics go something like this:

Between the battle's thunder, a soldier sits and wonders,
The question he is holding in his hand.
He wonders how to answer, the question in the letter,
And so he reads it over once again.

Your little daughter's crying, she wants to see her Daddy,
She wonders why it is you don't come home.
    .................................................. ..................................
    .................................................. .....................................

She's been asking questions, that I have alwas answered,
He's helping someone in a far off land.
But she has this new question , that I can't seem to answer,
And maybe you can help her understand.

She said, "Remember all those people, on the other side of town,
Daddy said he'd like to help someday,
Well why can't Daddy help them, instead of who he's helping,
And then he wouldn't be so far away.

    Question

    Connie Eaton & Dave Peel

Between the battle's thunder a soldier sits and wonder
And in his hand he holds a tear-stained note
He wonders how to answer the question in the letter
And once again he reads the words she wrote

Your little daughter's crying she wants to see her daddy
She wonders why it is he won't come home
Your little daughter loves you and she can't understand you
Oh she's been so unhappy since you've gone

She's been asking questions and I have always answered
He's helping someone in some far off land
But she has different questions that I can't seem to answer
So maybe you can help her understand

She said remember all those people on the other side of town
Daddy said he'd like to help someday
Well why can't daddy help them instead of who he's helping
And then he wouldn't be so far away

Between the battle's thunder a soldier sits and wonder
Of question he is holding in his hand
But he can't seem to answer the question in the letter
And so he reads it over once again

She said remember all those people on the other side of town...

    Gary; .................Many, many thanks!!

Not exactly as I remembered it. But then again it has been how many years???? Not to incriminate you, but do you remember this song? I'm thinking late 60's or early 70's. That is how many years ago??? Discography says 1970. Perhaps that was before your time!!

Phil, As I get older I find it hard to remember what I had for breakfast each morning.

Actually I do remember a lot of the OLD stuff, however I do not remember that song.

I was born in the 40's... YIKES, the years sure went by fast.
