Hi Gordon, The chords are on this site. Click on the cowboy hat at top left of this page, then click on V and find Vern Gosdin. You will find the chords there.

You will see it has Capo on 3rd fret and plays in C, C7, F and G7 chord shapes.

Another way to do it which might be a bit easier since you are starting (F bothers a lot of people at first) is to put the Capo on 1st fret (see below).

Here is a video you can play along with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTrPJvEzmwQ

Chiseled In Stone – Vern Gosdin

    Capo 1

    [D]//// ////
    [D]//// ////

[D] You ran cryin' to the bedroom
I ran off to the [G] bar,
[A7] Another piece of heaven gone to [D] hell,
The words we spoke in anger just tore my world a-[G]-part,
And I [A7] sat there feeling sorry for my-[D]-self.

Then that old man sat down beside me
And looked me in the [G] eye,
And he said [A7] "Son, I know what you're going [D] through,
You ought to get down on your knees
And thank your lucky [G] stars [A7] that you got someone to go home [D] to."

    You don't [D7] know about [G] lonely,
Or how long [D] nights can be,
Till you lived through the [A7] story
That's still living in [D] me,
And you don't [D7] know about [G] sadness
    'Til you faced life a-[D]-lone,
You don't know about [A7] lonely
'Til it's chiseled in [D] stone.

So I [D] brought these pretty flowers
    Hoping you would under-[G]-stand
    [A7] Sometimes a man is such a [D] fool,
    Those golden words of wisdom
From the heart of that old [G] man,
    [A7] Showed me I ain't nothing without [D] you.

    You don't [D7] know about [G] lonely,
Or how long [D] nights can be,
Till you lived through the [A7] story
That old man just told [D] me,
And you don't [D7] know about [G] sadness
    'Til you faced life a-[D]-lone,
You don't know about [A7] lonely
'Til it's chiseled in [D] stone.

You don't know about [A7] lonely
(No Chord) 'Til it's chiseled in [D] stone.
