Bassy9, It's not those ones and Tom Waits is not the singer. The singer I am looking for was born in the early 40s, blimey!

The only other one i could think of was lonnie donnegan with mule skinner blues, but he was born in 1931.

It is not Lonnie Donnegan, or Mule Skinner Blues or Mule Train.
The singer (who is still living) does have something in common with Lonnie Donnegan - THINK AWARD.
The person who wrote the song at age 13 is no longer with us.
